Spinach oats khichdi is a perfect meal option on days when you wish consuming something light yet homely. Oats khichdi is an Indian style oats porridge. It’s a fabulous vegetarian meal, it’s an wholesome recipe that replaces rice with oats, moong dal improves the protein content of the recipe and it is loaded with the goodness of spinach as well. Spinach and oats are one of the most healthiest ingredients which can be used while preparing khichdi.


  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker.
  • Once oil is hot, add asafetida & all whole spices and fry for a few seconds.
  • Once they start splutter add red chillies, onion, ginger, garlic and fry till onion becomes translucent.
  • Now add oats and moong dal, along with turmeric powder, garam masala powder, salt and spinach.
  • Cover the lid and give 1 whistle on high heat. Then simmer it and cook for 2 whistles on low heat.
  • Remove the pressure from cooker, and serve hot.



  • Oats- 15 gms
  • Moong dal- 15 gms
  • Onion- 25 gms (chopped)
  • Spinach- 75 gms
  • Ginger- ½ tsp
  • Garlic- 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds- ½ tsp
  • Asafoetida- a pinch
  • Dry red chillies- 2
  • Cloves- 2 nos
  • Cinnamon stick- 1
  • Black peppercorns- 4-5 nos
  • Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  • Garam masala powder- ½ tsp
  • Oil- 1 tsp
  • Water- as required
