Ragi kanji is a great version of savoury drink which makes you feel healthy and fresh. Ragi contains high amount of fiber and protein. It helps controls diabetes. Due to its high amount of protein content it helps during breastfeeding. It also helps to release stress and fights insomnia too. Ragi aids in better digestion. It also strengthens the bones.  


  • In a pan dry roast the ragi flour for 8-10mins on low heat until slightly browned.
  • Add water and mix well using a whisk to make smooth mixture.
  • Keep stirring continuously for about 3- 4 minutes.
  • Remove the pan from heat and cool the mixture.
  • Pour the mixture in a mixing bowl and add salt and buttermilk.
  • Heat oil in a tadka pan.
  • Once the oil is hot, add mustard seeds, Asafoetida , curry leaves and green chili and let them crackle for few seconds.
  • Pour the tempering over the kanji.


Ragi flour – 20g

Buttermilk – 200ml

Oil- 1 tsp

Water – 1 glass

Mustard seeds- ½ tsp

Curry leaves – 4-5

Asafoetida – 1tsp

Green chilli – 1 slit

Salt – to taste
