Brown chana is an excellent source of of gluten free, vegan protein. In India it is widely used to prepare a variety of curries and side dishes. For the salad you can either use brown chana or can use kabuli chana also. A combination of vegetables used to keep it rich in fiber and vitamins. The mint dressing make this chana salad more pleasant and refreshing. The freshness of mint and coriander add the herb taste to the dressing.


  • Boil chana in a pressure cooker with little of salt and water. Do not over cook chana as it might turn mushy.
  • Transfer the boiled chana in a strainer and let it cool down completely.
  • Add all the dressing ingredients in a blender. Grind to a smooth consistency. Transfer to a jar and keep in the fridge.
  • Take a big bowl, add boiled chana and chopped veggies and mix nicely.
  • Pour mint dressing over the salad and toss lightly.
  • Sprinkle fresh coriander leaves, lemon juice and olive oil, mix well.
  • Serve immediately.


  • Brown chana- 30 gms (soaked overnight)
  • Cucumber- 25 gms (chopped)
  • Tomato- 25 gms (chopped)
  • Capsicum- 25 gms (chopped)
  • Onion- 25 gms (chopped)
  • Coriander- 1 tbsp (chopped)
  • Lemon juice- ½ tsp
  • Water- as required

For dressing:

  • Mint leaves- 2 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves- 2 tbsp
  • Curd- 3 tbsp
  • Garlic- 2 cloves
  • Black pepper powder- ¼ tsp
  • Olive oil- ½ tsp
  • Salt- as per taste
