Green Moong Dal Cheela With Flaxseed

Cheela is typically a south Indian dish and in this recipe the rice has been replaced with whole moong dal which has loads of nutritious benefits and very ideal for weight loss. It is rich in fiber content which helps to lower cholesterol level. The addition of flax seeds further makes the cheela rich in omega-3-fatty acids which is a healthy fat and increases the fiber content of the dish and thus helps in digestion.   


Wash green moong and soak it in hot water for minimum 1hr.

Meantime grind green chilli, ginger, garlic, coriander leaves and flaxseed with little water to make a smooth paste.

Drain the water of the soaked moong dal and grind it into smooth batter

The consistency of the batter should be like that of dosa batter.

Pour the batter in a vessel and mix it with the grinded spice paste and add salt to it.

Heat a non-stick tava, grease it with 1/4th tsp oil and pour the batter and spread it evenly in a circular shape.

Add remaining 1/4th tsp oil on the cheela and cook on medium-high heat untill the base turns golden

Flip it and cook the other side as well till golden.

Serve hot with coriander/mint chutney.

To Grind to paste:

Green chilli- 1

Flaxseed- 2 tsp

Ginger- 1 tsp

Garlic- 2cloves

Coriander leaves- 1 tbsp

Salt to taste
