This south indian dish that is served with a south indian thali or meal. curd rice is nothing but curd (yogurt) mixed with cooked rice, herbs and then tempered. curd rice is also known as thayir sadam or daddojanam or bagala bath in some south indian languages.

Curd rice gives you such a sense of satisfaction and contentment. It also makes you feel restful and sometimes sleepy too, especially if eaten in excess.


  1. Wash and Soak the brown rice for 2 hours after rice get soaked drain the water and cook the rice as usual.
  2. In a bowl add the curd, cooked rice & coriander leaves mix it well and keep it aside.
  3. For tempering: in a nonstick pan pour in the oil when the oil gets heated up put the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, red chili, urad dal and chana dal and saute for 2 minutes.
  4. Put this tempering in the curd rice mix it well and serve chilled or as usual.


  • Curd – 1 cup (150 gms low fat)
  • Brown rice – 30 gms
  • Oil – ½ tsp
  • Urad dal –  ½ tsp
  • Chana dal – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves – 3-4
  • Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Cumin seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Dried red chilli – 1
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tsp
  • Salt – as per taste.
